Argent Job Scheduler Queue Engine Migration Steps

Do the following to migrate the Argent Queue Engine from the NT version to the XS version:

  1. Ensure that the Argent Job Scheduler – Scheduling Engine service has been stopped.

  2. Open a command prompt window and navigate to

    (drive):\ARGENT\SchedulingEngine directory and run:

    XS_MIGRATE /GET servername

where servername is the name of the server where the Argent Queue Engine is located.

This will save the system and queue settings to a file as prompted.

  3. Set the StartUp Type for the Argent Queue Engine being upgraded to Manual

  4. Stop the Argent Queue Engine service on the Argent Queue Engine server that is being upgraded.

  5. Re-boot the server.

Note: The Argent Queue Engine makes use of memory-mapped technology which is why a re-boot of the Argent Queue Engine server is required. If a re-boot is not done, the Deinstall will fail with the below error:

  6. After the server has been restarted, de-install the old NT version of the Argent Queue Engine by running the SETUP.EXE from the (drive):\ARGENT\QueueEngine directory.

Note: If de-installing the Argent Queue Engine from the same server on which the Argent Job Scheduler is installed, be sure to de-install ONLY the Argent Queue Engine.

  7. Re-install the new XS version of the Argent Queue Engine by running SETUP.EXE from the installation directory (_ARGENT_INSTALL_JOB_SCHEDULER.) When SETUP.EXE is run the XS version of the Argent Queue Engine is automatically installed as the setup program detects the server is a W200x machine.

Note: If installing the Argent Queue Engine on the same server on which the Argent Job Scheduler is installed, be sure to select Install W2000/NT services including client programs and ensure the Scheduling Engine checkbox is not selected as shown below:

  8. After the new Argent Queue Engine installation has completed, open a command prompt window.

  9. Navigate to the (drive):\ARGENT\SchedulingEngine directory and run:

         XS_MIGRATE /SET servername

where servername is the name of the server where the new XS Argent Queue Engine is located. This will restore the system and queue settings from the file saved previously.

  10. Inspect the Argent Queue Engine’s Log.txt file to ensure no errors are present.

  11. Change the altered StartUp Type for the Argent Queue Engine service back to Automatic.

  12. Repeat steps 2 – 11 until all Argent Queue Engines are migrated.
