KBI 220170 Argent Guardian Engine Is Using Only One Processor

10 Apr 2003

This KBI article describes how to use all the processors on an SMP machine.

Technical Background

By default, Argent services only use the first processor, processor 0.

This is intentional but can be adjusted by a simple registry change.

The registry key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_CPU_AFFINITY and by default it is set to a value of ‘1‘.

This means the service will only use the first processor on the server.

To adjust the service to use only the second processor, set this registry key to a value of ‘2‘, and so on.

If a client wants to allow the service to use a available processors, set this registry to ‘0‘.
