KBI 220262 File Locking In Argent Queue Engine
Version
3.2A-0107 and later
Date
22 Sep 2004
Summary
Typical symptoms include the Queue Engine repeatedly recycling itself, or a queue refusing to start. The Queue Engine recycling itself can be easily identified from the following log entry:
Failed to see the checkpoint event of The Argent Job Scheduler Queue Engine. Restart the service
Technical Background
As information is distributed over multiple individual files, it is easier to run into File Locking issues than in previous versions. Backup programs, anti-virus programs and system monitoring programs can lock our control files, especially CodeBase database files.
Resolution
- Make sure there are no running jobs.
- Shut down the Queue Engine service.
- Remove some or all J######_?.jde files. These will be located in the subdirectories of drive:\Argent\QueueEngine\DATA. As long as the Queue Engine is totally driven by Job Scheduler Engine, it is safe to delete all the job control files.
After taking these steps, investigate which program is locking the files.
The program should be configured to exclude the Queue Engine directories.
