Summary
A TELNET Handshake can be used to verify the functionality of FTP, POP3, SMTP, and
WWW subsystems for SLA purposes.
Technical Background
TCP Connections are generally giving a higher priority level within routers than ICMP packets.
For this reason, a Customer may choose to use TELNET handshake (TCP Connection)
rather than a simple PING (ICMP connection) for SLA testing.
A TELNET handshake can be used to for SLA reporting on the availability of
subsystems such as FTP, POP3, SMTP, and WWW.
For POP3 SLA testing, Screen G11A can be used to Telnet to TCP port 110, and
perform the ‘handshake’ seen on screen G11D.
