KBI 220571 DART SNMP Library Can Affect Ability To Query SNMP Devices
Version
Argent SNMP Monitor 8.0A-0607
Date
14 August 2006
Summary
Two issues have been reported when using the DART SNMP Library:
- An inability to walk the SNMP tree with the Argent OID Browser with a non-default community string
- Always getting ‘Rule not broken’ and OID ‘not available’ when using a Walk Within Branch rule
Technical Background
If Argent Extended Technologies is installed prior to installing Windows SNMP Services, Argent uses DART SNMP Library instead of Windows SNMP Library. This causes the Registry Key SNMP_LIBRARY to have a value of REG_DWORD 1.
Typically Windows SNMP services should be installed before installation of Argent Extended Technologies. However in the case that it not, it is generally recommended to install the Windows SNMP services and then install Argent Extended Technologies as an upgrade to retain original settings.
Subsequently, installing Windows SNMP Services will not change the Registry Key to the correct value of 0.
Resolution
- Stop all Argent services.
- Navigate to the Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Argent\ArgentManagementConsole.
- Edit the SNMP_LIBRARY key and change the value from 1 to 0.
- Be sure to restart all services upon completion of editing of the registry.
