Summary

When you install the Argent Job Scheduler Client GUI, the installer prompts you to specify a local (on the workstation) ODBC Data Source Name. Customers may experience an issue where after installing the client GUI, they can see Job Templates, the J1 Screen and other Control Information, however when they try to view Archived Jobs, the application presents an error dialog with the following message:

ODBC Error: Data source name not found and no default driver specified

Technical Background

This issue occurs when the ODBC Data Source Name (DSN) for Rollover & Archiving, specified on the main Argent Job Scheduler server, is not available on the local workstation.

Resolution

On the main Argent Job Scheduler server, open the Job Control Panel, navigate to Settings -> Configuration Options and select the Rollover & Archiving tab:

In the example shown, the DSN for Archived Jobs is “ArgentJS”.

ALL CLIENT GUI WORKSTATIONS NEED TO HAVE AN IDENTICALLY CONFIGURED DSN.

On the client workstation, open Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC). Configure a new System DSN with the same name and settings as the DSN on the Argent Job Scheduler server.
