Summary

A customer may experience an issue where the Argent iSeries Agent subsystem job processes ARGAGENT and ARGMAIN will no longer start, even after re-installing the Argent iSeries Agent.

The Argent iSeries Agent logs say:

WARNING ARB_KERNEL has detected a potentially serious condition.

Argent XT Agent for iSeries is not Ended.

Technical Background

This is most likely is happening because the customer did a hard re-boot of their iSeries server without first doing an orderly shutdown of the ARGENT subsystem.

Resolution

The customer should do the following steps to recover from this:

  • Log on to the iSeries server
  • Access command line via CALL QCMD
  • Press F10 (for detailed messages)
  • ADDLIBLE ARGENT
  • FRCARGAGT
  • STRSBS ARGENT/ARGENT

After following these steps, the customer should now see after running the WRKACTJOB command that the Argent iSeries Agent subsystem job processes ARGAGENT and ARGMAIN are now started and running as expected.

Note:

This is an issue with how iSeries behaves after a non-orderly shutdown, not with the Argent iSeries Agent.
