KBI 900009 Enhancement: Automatic Adjustment of Time Zones In ViewMagic
Version
Argent Commander 1707-A and above
Date
Tuesday, 15 August 2017
Summary
Customers with Daughter Engines in different time zones may find that they can’t see the ‘latest data’ on a particular server in ViewMagic.
Technical Background
Argent AT saves all data based on the time zone of the Supervising Engine that handled the data.
This means if a customer has the Main Engine in New York, and a Daughter Engine in Tokyo — the data being saved at the exact same time in New York and Tokyo are not going to be the same, as the data processed by Tokyo uses the Tokyo Time Zone (UTC +9), while the data processed in New York uses the New York Time Zone (UTC -5).
Resolution
Customers need to specify the time zones of servers in the Argent AT CMDB-X by using either ‘Fixed Hours’, or ‘Use Location Time Zone’, and setting an appropriate Location (with Time Zone settings intact).
Once this is in place, Argent Commander needs to be toggled to do the extra time zone calculations by adding an entry into the ARGSOFT_INTERNAL_SETTINGS.XML file:
<USE_SERVER_TZ VALUE=”1″ />
Once this is added, close all Argent Commander sessions and open a new session.
All Argent Predictor data will now be dynamically calculated in ViewMagic to account for time zones.
(e.g.
If ‘Now’ is 5 Aug 2017 08:00 on the Main Engine server in New York, instead of saying ‘show me all data as of 5 Aug 2017 08:00 for ALL servers’ when doing ViewMagic calculations, it will determine what the time zone would be on the target server, so that ‘Now’ for data on a Tokyo server would actually be 5 Aug 2017 22:00 (14 hours ahead).
This enhancement requires an upgrade to Argent Commander 1707-A or above
