Connectivity Rules SNMP

These Rules check an application is running and accessible over the network.

The Rules provide the following options for checking connectivity:

  • Ping
  • TCP/IP port scan (Port 23 for example)
  • Connect to Installed Remote SNMP Service on Device

The Contact Installed Remote SNMP Service On Device option verifies the device is online, and also verifies the SNMP community string is accurate.

An SNMP community string is a text string that acts much like a password. It is used to authenticate messages sent between the management station (the SNMP manager — Argent for SNMP, in this case) and the device (the SNMP agent). The community string is included in every packet between Argent and the device.
