KBI 310610 New Feature: Customizable Bytes-To-Send Limit Of SMS Messages
Version
Argent Advanced Technology 3.1A-1308-A and above
Date
Monday, 29 Jul 2013
Summary
Customers can specify the bytes-to-send limit of an SMS message
Technical Background
The SMS message byte limit is controlled by the customer’s cellular service provider, 128 bytes for most telephone companies, 160 bytes for some others.
In Argent XT, it is specified in each SMS alert definition, which is not the best solution.
Customers have one GSM modem per motor using one cellular service provider.
The limit is an across-the-board setting for all SMS messages. As a result, Argent AT implements the customizable limit at the Argent Console level.
When the Argent Console engine sends the SMS message, it truncates the message to the limit if the message is too long.
Resolution
Upgrade to Argent Advanced Technology 3.1A-1308-A and above.
