KBI 311899 Issue Addressed: Failed To Logon Argent Omega Web UI with Message An Error Has Occurred

Summary

After fresh installing an Argent Omega product including Argent Topology Manager, Argent Alert Mechanism, Argent Forecaster and Argent Omega, user might not be able to logon and message ‘An error has occurred’ is returned.

The issue is caused by that downloaded setup ZIP is deemed as unsafe. As results, the installed product service is executed in sandbox environment and do not have privileges to authenticate logon user.

To address the issue, right click on the ZIP file and do Properties. Make sure unblock the downloaded ZIP first before extracting. After file extraction, run SETUP.exe to complete the installation.

Technical Background

NTFS file system uses Alternative Stream to remember the zone information of downloaded files. If the file is a ZIP file, and extracted files using Windows Explorer will have the same zone information.

The behavior can be controlled using group policy. If user does not see the ‘Unblock’ option in Properties, the zone information has been stripped already. User can extract the setup files immediately.

Some 3rd party tool such as WinRAR does not maintain zone information for extracted files. As results, user won’t run into the issue if he has extracted setup files using such tools.
