Summary

Event-driven Rules such as SNMP Trap Rule and SYSLOG Rule cannot be tested.

Technical Background

When a Relator contains only event-driven Rules, it cannot be tested.

There is no mechanism to poll an SNMP trap or SYSLOG message.

The Argent AT engine handles these events only when the trap or message comes.

Thus, when a customer tries to test such a Relator, a misleading prompt message is displayed:

‘Could not parse Relator XXXX definition. See log for detail’

This misleading prompt has been corrected in Argent AT 3.1A-1310-A to:

‘Could not test Relator ‘REL_DEMO_TRAP’. Reason: It contains only passive Rules.

Resolution

Upgrade to Argent AT 3.1A-1310-A or later
