Version

Argent Advanced Technology 3.1A-1510-A and earlier

Date

Tuesday, 1 December 2015

Summary

DeviceMagic with option ‘Test Host Device’ always reports ‘Failed to reach device xxx’ if the CMDB-X Node uses DNS name instead of IP address for Node name

However, if System Down Rule ‘NDE_PING’ runs OK with the same Node

The issue has been addressed in Argent AT 3.1A-1510-T9

Technical Background

The issue is caused by coding error

Argent for SNMP uses ICMP API to ping remote device

The API takes the IP address only

The DNS name must be resolved into IP address first

Directly passing in DNS name can result the failed ping or unpredictable status

Resolution

Upgrade to Argent AT 3.1A-1510-T9 or later

For customer who cannot upgrade immediately, he can specify the alternative IP for the device in CMDB-X
