KBI 311689 Issue Addressed: ESX-ESXi Host Hardware Rule Does Not Check Storage Status

Version

Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1804-A or below

Date

Thursday, 19 July 2018

Summary

The status of Storage Disk drive sensors are not being read when running the ESX Host Hardware Rules against some of their ESX Host servers, even though the status of all the other Hardware sensors are read OK against the same ESX Host servers

Testing the Rule is able to read the status of the Storage Disk drives against most of their ESX Host servers like so:

When testing the Hardware Rule against four of their ESX Host servers it reads the status of all the components but not the Storage Disk drives for some reason:

It doesn’t show any errors, but it doesn’t list the Storage Disk Drives which are normally listed between the ‘power’ and ‘memory’ sensors

The status of the Storage Disk drives are viewable on those ESX Hosts when viewed through the vSphere client, the same way they are against the ESX Hosts servers where the Storage Disk drives are able to be read with the Argent Hardware Rule:

The issue has been addressed in Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1807-A

Technical Background

Argent Advanced Technology uses PowerCLI to read ESX-ESXi host hardware information

For majority of cases, the complete hardware information is returned within object ‘numericsensorinfo’

However, storage status information might be missing for some ESX hosts

Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1807-A has been enhanced to double check the returned result, and query storage status explicitly through another runtime object ‘hardwarestatusinfo’ if storage information is not included in ‘numericsensorinfo’

Resolution

Upgrade to Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1807-A or above
