Summary

The service fails to start.

An error message is generated stating the Server service is not installed.

Technical Background

The Server service is a standard component of LAN Manager for Windows NT/2000 which enables a server or workstation to connect to the network.

Resolution

To install the Server service, open up the Properties of the Network Interface (Local Area Connection in Windows 2000).

Install “File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks”.

This installs the Server service.
