Summary

This KBI discusses how Argent detects if a service is stalled.

Technical Background

Argent uses the standard Windows Service Control Manager (SCM) to check if a service being tested is responding.

SCM is the way Windows controls all services.

If SCM cannot contact the service, the service is effectively dead.

Thus Argent uses SCM to interrogate the service being tested and checks the resulting return code from SCM.
