KBI 220236 UNIX Agent Redundancy

Version

All

Date

7 May 2003

Summary

UNIX Agents differ from Regional Agents in terms of Monitoring functionality

Technical Background

UNIX Agents provide only the execution method for Relators, no scheduling or cache.

Unlike Regional Agents which provide scheduling, execution and cache in the event that the Primary Engine is offline.

UNIX Agents execute Scripts under instruction from a monitoring Engine or Agent.

For redundancy and fail-over conditions UNIX Relators should be configured by Checking Mechanism.

Resolution

Configure Relator Checking Mechanism for Regional Agent Monitoring — if Agent fails, Primary or Backup Engine will take control.
