Summary

After applying a new License Key, you receive an error message:

License Usage Exceeded.

However by looking at the License Manager, the total number of licenses used is not greater than the total number of licenses.

After resolving the issue, the customer is still receiving an email alert with the following in the message body

*** Argent Console LICENSE KEY ABOUT TO EXPIRE in 23 Hours***

Technical Background

This error commonly occurs when there is a product installed that is not part of the License Key.

From License Manager, you will note one of the products listed has Not Licensed listed next to it.

The License Key cannot be updated using the Argent Service Account due to UAC Virtualization on Windows Server 2008. UAC will only allow “ Run As” a process with elevated privileges.

Resolution

There are two scenarios to address this issue.

To address this issue, firstly ensure that the customer explicitly run Argent Management Console using the “Run as Administrator” option when applying licenses.

Scenario One:

The evaluation License Key was provided to allow evaluation to the entire suite of products within the Argent Extended Technology.

The new License Key received is only for a select group of products.

In this case, simply uninstall the non licensed products.

To confirm successful application of the License Key, perform the following:

  1. On the Argent Server, open the registry (using either regedit or regedt32).
  2. Locate and confirm the LICENSE_FILE value for each target product has been updated.

    For example, the Argent Guardian would be:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Argent\ArgentGuardian

Scenario Two:

The evaluation License Key was provided to allow evaluation to the entire suite of products within the Argent Extended Technology.

The new License Key received is only for a select group of products, however, evaluation of the other products have not been completed

In this case, take the following steps:

  1. Close the Main GUI.
  2. On the Argent Server, open the registry (using either regedit or regedt32).
  3. Locate the LICENSE_FILE value for each target product.

    For example, the Argent Guardian would be: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Argent\ArgentGuardian

  4. Edit this value to be the path of the demo key, e.g.

    C:\Argent\ArgentManagementConsole\_KEY\Argent_XT_xx_xxxx_sample_file.LIC

  5. Close the registry and open the Main GUI.
  6. Verify the License file for each product is correct. You will receive a pop up message indicating there are multiple License Keys in use. This is to be expected.
