KBI 310344 Argent Job Scheduler Fails To Generate Windows Alert Messages In Windows 2008 Or Higher

Version

Argent Job Scheduler 1209-E and later

Date

4 Mar 2013

Summary

Argent Job Scheduler fails to generate the windows alert messages in Windows Server 2008 and higher versions.

Technical Background

Argent Job Scheduler uses “Net Send” command provided by Microsoft in “Message Alert” to send message to other users in the network. “Net Send” is no more available in windows from version Vista onwards as Microsoft has replaced “Net Send” with “MSG“. From Argent Job Scheduler version 1209-E onwards, “MSG” is also included in “Message Alert“. Net Send requires only username to send message but MSG requires server name apart from username.

Resolution

When Argent Job Scheduler is installed in machines with Windows Vista or higher versions, username and server name has to be configured to send alert messages.
