This article describes how data retention is controlled for network device configuration backups

Technical Background

  • Device configuration backups data retention is controlled based on number of backups
  • The value is defined in License Manager Node Properties in ‘Keep Recent Versions’
  • The number is a counter, oldest backup gets deleted when number of backups exceeds the value
  • Default value is 10
  • Only changed configurations are counted

For example:

If backup runs daily, and in past 30 days, configuration has been changed for 15 times, as results, the oldest 5 backup copies will be deleted
