KBI 312127 – New Feature: Monitor Free Disk Space on Machines That Performance Counters Are Not Available

Version

Argent Omega 2.2A-2310-A or later

Date

Thursday, 2 November 2023

Summary

Argent Omega reads Windows performance metrics through Windows performance counters. They are not always available. For example, Remote Registry service might be disabled on purpose for security reason; as results, no performance counters are available remotely at all. Another example, user might turn off LogicalDisk performance counter by running command ‘diskperf -n’, which can boost disk performance for some hardware.

It is recommended that users should allow Argent Omega to read performance counters for best compatibility. In case that LogicalDisk performance is definitely not available, Argent Omega 2.2A-2310-A has been enhanced to read free disk space through native WIN32 API. The available counters are

  • \\LogicalDisk(Drive_Letter:)\% Free Space
  • \\LogicalDisk(Drive_Letter:)\Free Megabytes
  • Technical Background

Argent Omega uses Administrative Drives (C$, D$, etc.) to read the information of free disk space. In order to do so, Argent Omega service account must have access to these Administrative Drives.

    Resolution

Upgrade to Argent Omega 2.2A-2310-A or later.
