Summary
Argent Advanced Technology has been introduced a Rule Category ‘XenApp Performance Monitoring Rules’ with six new performance Rule subcategories in Argent for XenApp to monitor the performance of XenApp 6.5 servers
Subcategories:
Citrix CPU Utilization Management User Rules
Citrix CPU Utilization Management User Rules comprises of four categories:
CPU Entitlement Rules
This Rule monitors the percentage of CPU resource that makes available to a user at a given time by Citrix CPU Utilization Management
CPU Shares Rules
This Rule monitors the proportion of CPU resource assigned to a user
CPU Usage Rules
This Rule monitors the percentage of CPU resource consumed by a user at a given time (averaged over a few seconds)
Long-term CPU Usage Rules
This Rule monitors the percentage of CPU resource consumed by a user (averaged over a longer period than the CPU Usage counter)
Example:
‘CPU Entitlement Rules’ monitors the percentage of CPU resource that makes available to a user at a given time by Citrix CPU Utilization Management
Rule ‘RULE_CPU_ENTITLE_AT_LIMIT’ is broken, if ‘\Citrix CPU Utilization Mgmt User\CPU Entitlement’ counter in XenApp 6.5 server has value greater than 40
Citrix IMA Networking Rules
Citrix IMA Networking Rules comprises of three categories:
Bytes Received Per Second Rules
This Rule monitors the inbound bytes per second
Bytes Sent Per Second Rules
This Rule monitors the outbound bytes per second
Network Connections Rules
This Rule monitors the number of active IMA network connections to other IMA servers
Citrix Licensing Rules
Citrix Licensing Rules comprises of seven categories:
Average License Check-In Response Time Rules
This Rule monitors the average license check-in response time in milliseconds
Average License Check-Out Response Time Rules
This Rule monitors the average license check-out response time in milliseconds
Last Recorded License Check-In Response Time Rules
This Rule monitors the last recorded license check-in response time in milliseconds
Last Recorded License Check-Out Response Time Rules
This Rule monitors the last recorded license check-Out response time in milliseconds
License Server Connection Failure Rules
This Rule monitors the number of minutes that the XenApp server has been disconnected from the License Server
Maximum License Check-In Response Time Rules
This Rule monitors the maximum license check-in response time in milliseconds
Maximum License Check-Out Response Time Rules
This Rule monitors the maximum license check-out response time in milliseconds
Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server Rules
Application Resolution Time Rules
This Rule monitors the time taken for the resolution of an application in milliseconds
Application Resolutions Per Second Rules
This Rule monitors the number of resolutions completed per second
Cumulative Server Load Rules
This Rule monitors the processor utilization and connected XenApp user session loads of the host server
Data Store Connection Failure Rules
This Rule monitors the number of minutes that the XenApp server has been disconnected from the data store
Data Store Bytes Read Rules
This Rule monitors the number of bytes read from the data store
Data Store Bytes Read Per Second Rules
This Rule monitors the number of bytes of data store data read per second
Data Store Bytes Written Per Second Rules
This Rule monitors the number of bytes of data store data written per second
Data Store Reads Rules
This Rule monitors the number of times data was read from the data store
Data Store Reads Per Second Rules
This Rule monitors the number of times data was read from the data store per second
ICA Session Rules
ICA Session Rules comprises of 27 categories:
Input Audio Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when playing sound in an ICA session
Input Clipboard Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when performing clipboard operations such as cut and paste between the ICA session and the local window
Input COM Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when sending data to the client COM port
Input Control Channel Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when executing LongCommandLine parameters of a published application
Input Drive Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when performing file operations between the client and server drives during an ICA session
Input Font Data Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when initiating font changes within a SpeedScreen-enabled ICA session
Input Licensing Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used to negotiate licensing during the session establishment phase. Often, no data for this counter is available, as this negotiation takes place before logon
Input Printer Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when printing to a client printer through a client that has print spooler support enabled
Input Seamless Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used for published applications that are not embedded in a session window
Input Session Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used from client to server for a session
Input Session Compression Rules
This Rule monitors the compression ratio used from client to server for a session
Input Session Line Speed Rules
This Rule monitors the line speed, measured in bits/second, used from client to server for a session
Latency – Last Recorded Rules
This Rule monitors the last recorded latency measurement for the session
Latency – Session Average Rules
This Rule monitors the average client latency over the lifetime of a session
Latency – Session Deviation Rules
This Rule monitors the difference between the minimum and maximum measured latency values for a session
Output Audio Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used for playing sound in an ICA session
Output Clipboard Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used for clipboard operations such as cut and paste between the ICA session and the local window
Output COM Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when receiving data from the client COM port
Output Control Channel Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when executing LongCommandLine parameters of a published application

This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when performing file operations between the client and server drives during an ICA session
Output Font Data Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when initiating font changes within a SpeedScreen-enabled ICA session
Output Printer Bandwidth Rules
This Rule monitors the bandwidth, measured in bits/second, used when printing to a client printer through a client that has print spooler support enabled

Technical Background
Argent for XenApp introduces ‘XenApp Performance Monitoring Rules’ as it is important to monitor the performance counters in XenApp 6.5 Servers
XenApp Performance Monitoring Rules monitor the performance counter values in XenApp 6.5 Server, and will be broken if the value matches the threshold condition
