KBI 311627 Issue Addressed: Some Versions Of AIX Servers Could Not Be Monitored By Telnet Option

Version

Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1801-A and below

Date

Monday, 26 February 2018

Summary

It has been reported that Telnet option does not work for some AIX servers

When doing connectivity testing, it fails at error ‘Failed to find login prompt’

Argent Advanced Technology has been using built-in Telnet functions implemented in IPWorks DLL, which is found not compatible with some versions of AIX Servers

Argent Advanced Technology has been enhanced to do Telnet through PLINK.exe

In order to instruct Argent AT Engine to use PLINK instead of built-in Telnet functions, set the terminal type to ‘PLINK’ in Licensed Node Properties

The issue has been addressed in Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1804-A

Technical Background

The issue is caused by the incompatibility between IPWorks DLL and AIX servers

The built-in Telnet functions works for majority of UNIX servers, including known LINUX flavors

Also, Telnet is regarded as an obsolete and insecure protocol

Use SSH instead if possible

Note: To use PLINK option, PLINK.exe should be installed on Argent AT Engine, preferably in Windows directory

Resolution

Upgrade to Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1804-A or above
