KBI 311681 Issue Addressed: Device Magic Reports Incorrect In/Out Bandwidth Usage When RFC2233 Interface Counters Are Used

Version

Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1804-A and below

Date

Wednesday, 20 June 2018

Summary

Bandwidth usage (Mbits/second) might report unusual big numbers (> 10,000,000) when using RFC2233 interface counters

It affects incoming, outgoing and total bandwidth data

The issue has been addressed in Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1807-A

Technical Background

The issue is caused by coding error

Device Magic calculates the bandwidth usage by comparing current and last saved interface counters

RFC2233 interface counters are 64-bit counters

Argent Advanced Technology internally uses unsigned long number which is a 32-bit number to pass last saved interface counter value

The value can be overflow for busy or long running switches

As a result, the unusual big number of bandwidth data is wrongly reported

Resolution

Upgrade to Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1807-A or above
