Summary

Argent Console can be configured to do Event auto-answering by MAPI

However customer may find that the replying email messages are not recognized by Argent Console Engine if they are composed in HTML format

The replying email messages will be stuck in Inbox until being cleared manually

The issue has been addressed in Argent AT 3.1A-1501-T4 or later

Technical Background

The issue is caused by a bug in extended MAPI in some combination of recent versions of Exchange Server and Outlook

The exact combination has not been identified

When reading MAPI message, there is an internal threshold that message is not returned in direct MAPI API call; it has to be read through stream interface instead

The UNICODE and ASCII conversion is buggy

As a result, the garbage text is read back

The threshold seems to be related to the message size

When message is composed in plain text format, it tends to be much shorter than HTML format, so the stream interface is less likely required

The issue also seems not happening for Outlook 2007 and earlier

Resolution

Upgrade to Argent AT 3.1A-1501-T4 or later

If customer cannot upgrade immediately, he should compose the replying email in plain text format
