KBI 311571 Issue Addressed: Low Disk Space Caused By Fast-Growing AAC_ENGINE_LOG.TXT

Summary
This article describes a scenario where the Argent Console AAC_ENGINE_LOG.TXT grows extremely rapidly. Argent has observed one case where the log grows more than 10 GB each day.
AAC_ENGINE_LOG.TXT can be found in {Drive:}\Argent\ArgentConsole\LOGS
The issue occurs when the “Event Answering by Email” feature is enabled, and if the mailbox being read by Argent contains many emails.
(In our scenario — 300+ emails with each email containing 20,000 characters, scanned every minute)
Symptoms can be low disk space, or a sudden spike in disk space usage.
Technical Background
When “Event Auto Answering by Email” is enabled, Argent Console logs the content of each email found into AAC_ENGINE_LOG.TXT.
Argent checks the mailbox every 1 minute by default.
There is no ‘read’ or ‘unread’ mechanism, so the same emails are repeatedly logged
Argent’s main purpose of logging the email content is to allow customers to troubleshoot what is being read and processed, and to debug issues related to ‘Why isn’t the auto-answering feature working?’
Unfortunately, there are many cases where the feature simply ends up logging a large number of unnecessary, useless emails, such as:
- Undeliverable emails (staff no longer with company)
- Out of office auto reply (vacation, out-of-hours, etc.)
Resolution
Upgrade to Argent Advanced Technology 5.1A-1707-D or above.
Argent has removed the unnecessary logging of emails.
For customers experiencing the issue who are unable to upgrade, customers have the following options:
- If the “Event Answering By Email” is not being used; disable the feature.
- If the feature IS being used:
- Clean out the current Inbox an Junk emails from the designated Argent mailbox
- Check all Email Alerts point to existing staff; weed out emails in distribution lists or Email Alert definitions for staff that are no longer with the company
