KBI 311284 Enhancement: Database Size Rules In Argent for SQL Server
Version
Argent Advanced Technology 1507-T3 and later
Date
Tuesday, 15 September 2015
Summary
Argent Advanced Technology has been enhanced the Rule category ‘Database Size Rules’ under ‘Space Management Rules’ in Argent for SQL Server with two additional options:
- Exclude Specified Databases – Provision to monitor all databases except the specified
- Fire Alert For Each Individual Database – Receive individual Alert for each database under same server if threshold is broken
Example:
‘Database Size Rules’ checks whether the used space of database exceeds the limit in all versions
Rule ‘DATABASE_SIZE_SQL2008_EXCEEDING_LIMIT’ is broken if used space of any databases in the server is greater than 50%
To Exclude Specified Databases:
Use this option to exclude specific databases from checking
Wildcards are also allowed to specify a group of databases
For example: AT_*, XT* will exclude AT_DB_001, AT_TEST, XT001_DB, XT_DB_DE etc from checking
To Fire Individual (Separate) Alerts for Each Database:
Use this option to fire separate Alerts for each databases under same server
Wildcards are also allowed to specify a group of databases
Also, there is a provision to exclude the specified databases
For example: AT_*, XT* will exclude AT_DB_001, AT_TEST, XT001_DB, XT_DB_DE etc from checking and fires individual Alerts for each databases monitored under same server, that satisfies the Rule breaking condition
Technical Background
‘Database Size Rules’ monitors the used space of each database in an SQL Server
Argent for SQL Server informs the user with individual Alerts for each database if threshold is broken and save performance data for all databases under same server
Also, the user can exclude specific databases or a group of databases (using wildcards) from checking
Resolution
Upgrade to Argent Advanced Technology 1507-T3 or later
