KBI 311387 New Rule Category Process CPU Usage Rule In Argent for XenApp
Version
Argent Advanced Technology 1601-T8 and later
Date
Monday, 2 May 2016
Summary
Argent Advanced Technology has been introduced a new Rule category ‘Process CPU Usage Rules’ in Argent for XenApp under ‘Application Monitoring Rules’ to check whether process of any application running in ICA (Independent Computing Architecture) sessions in XenApp 6.5 server, has the CPU usage matching the threshold condition
Example:
‘Process CPU Usage Rules’ checks the CPU usage of all processes of applications running in ICA (Independent Computing Architecture) sessions in XenApp server
Rule ‘RULE_PCS_CPU_USG_AT_LIMIT’ is broken, if the CPU usage of a process of an application running in ICA (Independent Computing Architecture) sessions in XenApp server is greater than 40%
Technical Background
A higher value indicates more CPU usage
It should be checked immediately to find out the root cause of the extreme CPU usage
It is significant to prevent users and their processes from utilizing the CPU too much and maintain a consistent performance level for all users on the XenApp server
This Rule informs if any process of applications running in ICA (Independent Computing Architecture) sessions in XenApp 6.5 servers has CPU Usage, matching the threshold condition
Also, there is a provision to exclude specific User Accounts from monitoring
Wildcards ‘*’ and ‘?’ are allowed in both Include and Exclude options
Resolution
Upgrade to Argent Advanced Technology 1601-T8 or later
