KBI 310285 Migrating Argent Reports

Version

Argent Reports – All versions

Date

13 Dec 2011

Summary

If a customer wants to “migrate” Argent Reports to a new server, there are three main scenarios in a migration:

  1. Has Argent AT, or the Argent AT database moved?
  2. Has the Argent Reports web server moved?
  3. Has the Argent Reports database moved?

This KBI covers the three scenarios and the migration steps for each.

Argent Reports has its own database which is separate from the Argent AT database.

Argent Reports also has flat XML files that hold per-user settings, security options, etc.

Argent Reports also has services involved for scheduling and executing reports.

All of the above needs to be considered based on the type of migration.

Technical Background

Argent AT or Argent AT Database Move

  1. Go to {Drive:}\Argent\ArgentReports\CONFIGURATION_TOOL
  2. Run ARGENT_REPORTS_CONFIGURATION.EXE
  3. Follow the configuration wizard, and specify the Argent AT (and/or Argent XT) hostname
  4. Type in the service account password (the service account username is obtained from the Argent Console service)
  5. Argent Reports should now be updated to the new Argent AT server AND Argent AT database

Argent Reports Web Server Move

  1. Backup the existing Argent Reports database, and contents of the {Drive:}\Argent\ArgentReports\XML folder
  2. Install Argent Reports on the new web server, pointing all databases to the original database
  3. Restore the contents of the backed up XML folder into the new {Drive:}\Argent\ArgentReports\XML folder, EXCEPT for ARGSOFT_CONFIGURATION.XML

Argent Reports Database Move

  1. Backup the existing Argent Reports database, and contents of the {Drive:}\Argent\ArgentReports\XML folder
  2. Reinstall Argent Reports on the web server, pointing the Argent Reports database to the new database
  3. Restore the contents of the backed up XML folder into the {Drive:}\Argent\ArgentReports\XML folder, EXCEPT for ARGSOFT_CONFIGURATION.XML
