Summary

Argent’s CMDB-X is an extensible database of servers and devices in a network environment of an enterprise organization.

CMDB-X provides complete network discovery of all servers and TCP/IP devices in the network using Active Directory, Network Browser, ICMP Ping, Windows Cluster and SNMP Discovery.

Many of the enterprise customers keep their network hierarchy, for their ease of use, in CSV files. Due to its simplicity, many of the network administrators prefer to work with CSV and many of the scripting languages like PowerShell provides easy interfaces for CSV to manipulate with.

Argent provides the CLI ARGSOFT_CSV_TO_CMDBX.EXE to import the network details from a CSV file to CMDB-X

Technical Background

ARGSOFT_CSV_TO_CMDBX.EXE

As the name suggests, it will import the network details stored in a CSV file to CMDB-X database.

It should be run on the machine in which Argent Advanced Technology is installed

The details of backend database used for CMDB-X is read from the registry

CSV file MUST be in following format

To export network details from CMDB-X to CSV, another command line utility namely, ARGSOFT_ CMDBX_TO_CSV.EXE, is used.

Usage

ARGSOFT_CSV_TO_CMDBX.EXE CSV_FILE_NAME [/OVERWRITE] [/GENERATE]

ARGSOFT_CSV_TO_CMDBX.EXE FILENAME
Imports to CMDB-X from a csv file specified in the FILENAME argument

Skips duplicate node names in CMDBX
ARGSOFT_CSV_TO_CMDBX.EXE FILENAME /OVERWRITE
Imports to CMDB-X from a csv file specified in the FILENAME argument

Overwrites existing CMDBX nodes
ARGSOFT_CSV_TO_CMDBX.EXE /GENERATE
Generates a sample csv file in the execution path of ARGSOFT_CSV_TO_CMDBX.EXE
