Technical Background

To disable auto update of Google Chrome, do the following

1. Open the Windows ‘Run’ utility
2. Type ‘services.msc’ and hit enter
   
3. Scroll down to ‘Google Update Service (gupdate)’ and ‘Google Update Service (gupdatem)’
   
   
   
   Click For Full Size
4. Double-click on service ‘Google Update Service (gupdate)’ to open the ‘Properties’ window
5. Under the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Startup Type’ as ‘Disabled’ from the dropdown menu
   
6. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for the service ‘Google Update Service (gupdatem)’
