Summary

Argent’s products have a granular and configurable security model.

This is controlled from the Security Manager available within each of the associated products.

There are three parts to the configuration dialog – the System Administrator Definition, the General Operation Settings and the Node Security Settings.

Technical Background

The Argent security model integrates fully with Microsoft’s Active Directory and Windows 4.0 security models.

The delegation of the Argent functionality is controlled centrally from the Security Manager available within each product.

When defining a security model it is important the Argent Administrator be defined.

The Argent Administrator is a “Super User” and has full control over the system at all the times.

The Argent Administrator is defined in the System Administrator field on the Security Manager dialog.

The group or user specified is defined as the Argent System Administrator.

The General Operation Settings allows security to be applied via function i.e. actions performed against the GUI.

This includes actions such as starting and stopping services or backing up the database.

Users or Groups are specified against standard operational settings.

Only the user or groups specified in the list can perform the specified actions.

The third security specification is the Node Security Settings.

These settings allow the administrator to specify what uses have rights to interact with specified servers.

If no security groups are specified within the Node Security Settings the security manager will default to the “Default Node Policy” settings selected from the drop down list.

When specified only the users or groups specified in the dialog will be able to interact with the specified servers.
